May 21–23/ Series 15 of 52/ Games 45, 46 & 47 of 162

The Giants were the talk of baseball heading into this weekend matchup against the Dodgers. This series meant much more to the Giants than the Dodgers, as it would serve as an early test of their legitimacy as a playoff contender. Many media outlets have claimed that they are for real, that they are good. San Francisco was coming off a sweep of Cincinnati and the Dodgers were coming off a sweep of Arizona. What happened next?

The Dodgers swept the Giants, convincingly. They stomped on them. The Dodgers' strengths were on full display. Mookie Betts started the only game in which the offense struggled as a whole, a testament to how well they performed in the other two games. Betts was out of games two and three due to a sore shoulder. Best to get him healthy, especially since the team has a grudge match against Houston starting today.

The Dodger's best strength this season has been the starting pitching. Trevor Bauer, Walker Buehler and Julio Urias each had outstanding outings. This is becoming the norm. Bauer and Urias are entering All-Star conversations, behind the otherworldly Jacob DeGrom. In his start, Trevor Bauer won over the Dodger fans who were on the fence about him with this gem:

Max Muncy did a Max Muncy thing:

Gavin Lux also participated:

Losing to the Giants is one of those super annoying things that happens every year because it is impossible to sweep 19 games. It’s bound to happen, but not yet. The boys put SF in their place. Sandwiched between the next series against them is a two-gamer against Houston. This is an important series to the emotional health of myself and all Dodger fans. Game one is Kershaw vs. Greinke. This will be fun.
